Which Notarial Act will you request?

The majority of documents can be notarized using the two most common notarial certificates. Here are short explanations of  Acknowledgments and Jurats so that you can make the most informed decision about your notarization requests.

Acknowledgment

In the notarization of an acknowledgment the Notary Public Certifies that the Singer (you)

1. Appeared before the Notary Public,

2. Provided acceptable proof of Identification, and

3.  Acknowledged that you willingly executed the document.

  • Grant Deeds

  • Quitclaim Deeds

  • Deeds of Trusts

  • Trusts

  • Certifications of Trust

  • Declarations of Trusts

  • Assignments

  • Powers of Attorney

  • HIPAA Waivers

  • Advance Health Care Directives

  • Compliance Agreements

Jurat

In the notarization of a Jurat the Notary public certifies that 

1. The signer (you) appeared before the Notary Public

2. The signer signed the document in the presence of the Notary Public

3. The notary public administered an Oath or Affirmation to the signer (typically to the truthfulness of the information in the document)

4. The notary identified the signer with acceptable proof of identification.

Documents that may request a Jurat include

  • Affidavits

  • Sworn Statement

  • True and Accurate

  • Copy of Vital Records (Birth, Marriage, School, Etc)

  • Occupancy Affidavits

  • Name Affidavits

  • Affidavit of Death 

  • Joint Tenants

  • Affidavit of Death of Trustee

  • Declarations
